A career revived

After nine seasons at Everton, where he also scored 16 league goals in the 2020/21 campaign, Calvert-Lewin moved to Leeds on a free transfer last summer. His contract runs until the end of the current season. The forward has spoken openly about the challenges he has faced. "I have spoken honestly and commendably about mental struggles during a career frequently interrupted by injury," Calvert-Lewin said.

The potential recall aligns with a period of strength for the national team. England currently sit top of their World Cup qualifying group with seven points from three games, one point clear of Croatia. Their recent form shows four wins from their last five outings, a run that includes a 6-4 victory over France in July. Jude Bellingham leads the scoring charts with seven goals in eight appearances this season.
