Reports claim Pep Guardiola is in advanced talks with Italy over their vacant national team manager’s job - and England’s Football Association may not be far behind.

Sky in Italy say FIGC officials, including technical director Paolo Maldini and advisor Leonardo, met Guardiola in Barcelona over three days. The former Manchester City boss, who speaks fluent Italian from his playing days at Brescia and Roma, would become only the second non-Italian to take charge of the Azzurri - and the first since the 1960s. His last club job ended in May after a decade at Etihad Stadium, where he won 20 trophies including the Champions League in 2023.
Could England make a move?
England’s boss Thomas Tuchel faces heavy criticism after the loss to Argentina, but the FA extended his contract in February until 2027. Former captain Wayne Rooney suggested the FA might go after Guardiola if he’s available. “I don’t see anyone else out there right now,” Rooney said on his show. “If we sack him, what managers are we going to bring in? And I don’t think there’s anyone out there who’s as good as Thomas Tuchel, unless Guardiola.”
The FA approached Guardiola before hiring Tuchel, with reports of a verbal agreement that kept him at Manchester City. His trophy haul in England includes six Premier League titles, three FA Cups, five League Cups and the Champions League in 2023.
